Vanity

Who better to represent vanity than Narcissus? Can you spot the nymph Echo?

To fill in on the story, Echo was a nymph who was madly in love with Narcissus (son of the river god Cephissus) but Narcissus repeatedly rejected Echo. She was heartbroken and grew thinner and thinner until she wasted away. Narcissus, however, did find love in his own reflection; although he thought it was someone else under the water. So engrossed with the mysterious beautiful person he saw he too did not eat or drink and so wasted away.

  1. Such charming stories those Romans and Greeks left us! I finally did spot her, but I won't give it away for the next person. This is a really cool, detailed drawing. I think Echo might be my favorite part.

  2. Excellent illustration! This was a great idea for "vanity". You did a nice job with all the details, and it's neat that you kept Echo a bit hidden :)
