The above picture is an entry into Illustration Friday with the topic of Disguise. The image illustrates the stroy of Leda and the Swan.
To fill you in on the story, the Roman God Jupiter (Zeus to the greeks) saw Leda bathing in the river Eurotas. So struck by her beauty, Jupiter came up with a plan to win her affections. He changed into a swan while Venus changed into an eagle and chased him. He found refuge in Leda's arms and seduced her.
Nine months later she laid two eggs and from these hatched four children. Two were immortal, Helen and Pollux, and said to be the children of Jupiter. The other two, Castor and Clytemnestra, were the mortal children of Leda's husband Tyndareus.
The disguise, of course, refers to Jupiter turning into a swan.
From a technical note, I do need to learn how best to use my scanner; it has come out a bit pale! Otherwise, perspective and scale is over rated these days anyway.
Beautiful lyrical piece!
